The Walking Dead: Tom Payne Weighs In On Jesus' Death

Being cast on The Walking Dead comes with the expectation of your character being killed. It's almost inevitable for every actor on the series. In one way or another, your character probably won't have a pulse by the time the show ends.

During a panel on the 2017 Walker Stalker Cruise, Paul "Jesus" Rovia actor Tom Payne was asked to share his perspective on his character's death. Of course, his character is still alive in Robert Kirkman's deadly comic books, so the character is largely expected to stick around for some time (unless he suffers a fate similar to Judith, Dale, or Andrea).

The question specifically asked if Payne prefers Jesus to go out by way of walker bite or killed by humans.

"I think man," Payne said.

His reasoning is not because he wants Jesus to go out in any sort of epic gun fight or crazy sacrifice to save his people. Payne's hope to see Jesus off by man's doing is a result of his acting abilities! "When you get bit in a couple days you die," Payne said. "I couldn't act it!"

Man might just have a hard time killing Payne's character, though. The Hilltop resident is equipped with some of the best survival skills of anybody in the area and has only begun to show them off on the AMC series.

In fact, Jesus and The Walking Dead are so action heavy, that Payne admits he was startled by some of the first few scenes he was a part of.

"On this show, everyone throws themselves around!" Payne said. "Andy Lincoln, the lead actor, the lead actor that this whole show is based on, is literally throwing himself on this huge leap and rolling around on the floor and struggling. Like, excuse me? Where are the stunt people? What's happening?"

Payne has put in some additional training lately in an effort to bring an iconic scene from the comics to life where his Jesus character gets the honor of making Negan look stupid.
