Fear the Walking Dead has been all about girl power through its second season.

Throughout the momentus back half of Season 2, Fear the Walking Dead saw the evolution of characters like Ofelia and Alicia while also introducing Luciana. By the end of it, we knew the characters were not to be messed with as they plunged hammers into walker heads and switchblades into enemy's hearts.

Heading into Season 3, the girl power will continue and, in fact, escalate (or fall) into villainy. A new character, one whose name and the actress we are yet to learn, will take the reigns as the first female villain in the world of The Walking Dead when the series returns in 2017.

Speaking to Fear the Walking Dead's executive producer and co-creator Dave Erickson, ComicBook.com got the first intel on the upcoming baddie.

"There's gonna be a new prominent character, who we're gonna meet south of the border, who is going to have an impact on Nick and Luciana, and Strand most likely," Erickson reveals. She will become somebody, I think, who can rival any of the powerful characters we've had on the show or will have on the show. The idea is to create opposing forces on either side of the border and see what happens when they end up in conflict and what happens if our family is on opposite sides of the conflict."

So, that certainly means we're headed to a female villain, right?

"Possibly, yes," Erickson says with a laugh.

With a female villain south of the border, is it possible that the militia residing in the United States suspected La Colonia as a threat? Perhaps the group thought they were being marched on by the upcoming villain's group and will turn out to friends rather than foes for Nick, Lucy and the rest of the gang.

Erickson, fully aware of the transformation of the women on Fear the Walking Dead, promises that the ladies who are kicking ass just to survive will continue to do so when we find them in 2017.

"Alicia is another one who can't turn back," Erickson says. "She definitely adapted to the killing of the dead and she ripped off Jack's buttterfly knife and she has become quite skilled with that. She was not the one who was supposed to take a life. Unlike Travis, who has now murdered two and indirectly killed a third, she was not prepared for that and she's gonna have to take a little bit more time to adjust. That doesn't mean she's gonna be weaker by any stretch of the imagination but it's gonna take her a minute to get accustomed to the fact that she killed an innocent man."

"Alicia is a force and we're going to continue that track with her," Erickson concludes.

"Mercedes [Mason] is just really good at killing zombies, amongst other things," the producer goes on, turning his attention to Ofelia. "That was somethign we saw as the season evolved. She's lost both of her parents and what she recognized in episode nine was that, 'Just because I'm with you people, Alicia, Madison, Travis and company, you're not my family. We came together by accident and without any real bloodline, I'm gonna go and try to find something that mattered to me before this all began.' It's a bit of a suicidal attempt in some respects but luckily she runs across Dayton Callie and I think that is gonna turn her back towarda more realistic version of the apocalypse."

Also joining the cast of Fear the Walking Dead in Season 3 is Sons of Anarchy alum Dayton Callies, who plays Russell, a part of the north-of-the-border militia introduced in the closing moments of the show's second season.
