The Walking Dead had has a few celebrity cameos through 99 episodes but one which stood out saw Tony Danza as his Who’s The Boss opening credits sequence played in The Sanctuary during Episode 7×03. As it turns out, this cameo was made possible by Norman Reedus.

Reedus was admittedly not a huge fan of The Cell episode which called for him being naked and crying through most of its run time. The highlight of the episode, however, spawned from a few chance encounters with Tony Danza ahead of the episode’s filming which lead to his inclusion.

On The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season’s blu-ray, Reedus tells the story of Danza’s cameo on the Episode 7×03 commentary track.

“I ran into Tony Danza a couple of times actually,” Reedus said. “It was originally in Atlanta at a wrap party a couple of seasons ago. And then I saw him again in front of The Four Seasons. And then his manager ended up sending an email via someone else to me about Tony doing something.”

The word got to showrunner Scott Gimple and the wheels started turning. “[Scott] had asked me, ‘Hey, send an email and see if it’d be cool if we did something to the credits with his show.’”

“We did that and then his manager wrote me back and said something like ‘Oh, it’s cool. It would be cool if Norman said like, ‘Oh, see โ€” he’s still the boss,’” Reedus said. “Something crazy. Which, of course, we didn’t do.”

Although Daryl did not offer any opinion of Danza, Reedus says, “He’s super cool.”
