For over fifteen years, Robot Chicken has parodied the pop culture landscape with the help of countless action figures and toys. So when the show returns for its upcoming ninth season, fans can officially expect a sketch involving the ever-popular Funko Pop! figures.
While sitting down with ComicBook.com during last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, Robot Chicken‘s producers confirmed that a sketch inspired by the big-headed vinyl figures is on the way. Check it out in the clip above!

According to producer Tim Root, the Funko sketch was brought about by rather unconventional means.
“Sometimes we’ll get far along in the season and then realize that we’re getting a little repetitive.” Root explained. “And so to shake things up, we’ll write a bunch of things on the dry erase board, like suggestions. Like, we’re not a bunch of Ben 10 watchers, so we’ll put Ben 10 on the board and force some creativity out of that. And so Funko was one of our words, and we wrote maybe fifty to seventy-five terrible, un-filmable Funko sketches until we finally settled on one.”
It’s unclear what license of Funko figures will be used in the sketch – considering the company’s massive reach across DC, Star Wars, and more. But creator Matthew Senreich did provide some hints as to when fans will be able to see it on Robot Chicken.
“[It] will be in our season finale,” Senreich revealed, “if I’m not mistaken.”
“And it’s about fifteen seconds long,” added producer Tom Sheppard.
And for the avid Funko fans who are worried about the length Robot Chicken‘s parody will go, Senreich reassured that much of the cast and crew are definitely fans of the Pop! figures.
“Oddly,” Senreich explained, “there are probably more [Funko products] that are in our building than maybe any other type of toy.”
Season 9 of Robot Chicken doesn’t yet have an exact season premiere date, but will be debuting on Adult Swim sometime this fall.
