Brock Lesnar Crashes John Cena’s Final WWE SmackDown (And Their Match is Right Around the Corner)

John Cena’s farewell tour is in full swing, but we are getting closer and closer to its inevitable end with every appearance. Tonight, the farewell tour brought Cena to Chicago, and with it, Cena’s final appearance on WWE SmackDown. Unfortunately, Cena’s celebration (and Title shot) was interrupted by Brock Lesnar, and not only will they finally face each other one-on-one, but it’s actually right around the corner.

Cena would find himself getting a shot at the United States Championship thanks to Sami Zayn, but that shot was cut short by Lesnar, who hit the ring and dished out an F5 to Zayn and then hit Cena with two F5s right after. While Lesnar would leave the ring, cameras would catch up with him backstage, and that’s when he said, “I’ll see you at Wrestlepalooza b****.”

Headed to Wrestlepalooza

With Lesnar announcing the date of the match, fans won’t have to wait long, as Wrestlepalooza takes place on Saturday, September 20th. Cena vs Lesnar is only the second match officially confirmed for the card at this point, joining the Women’s World Championship match between Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer.

The two events coming up that seemed most likely to hold this event were Wrestlepalooza and the Raw at Madison Square Garden. Now we know at least the first match will take place this month, but it’s unclear if we’ll get some sort of second battle between the two before Cena’s last appearance.

The Farewell Tour is Winding Down

After tonight’s appearance on SmackDown, Cena has 7 more appearances left during his farewell tour. Those appearances include 3 episodes of Monday Night Raw, 3 Premium Live Events, and 1 Saturday Night’s Main Event. That Saturday Night’s Main Event looks to be the retirement match for Cena, closing out the tour in December, and you can find the full rundown of Cena’s final dates below.

• Raw Springfield, MA, September 15

• WrestlePalooza Indianapolis, IN, September 20

• Crown Jewel Perth, Australia, October 11

• Raw Boston, MA, November 10

• Raw New York City, NY, November 17

• Survivor Series San Diego, CA, November 29

• Saturday Night’s Main Event, Washington, DC, December 13

As for who Cena will face during those remaining dates, there are certainly plenty of wishlists out there amongst fans, and so far during the tour, we’ve seen Cena face Logan Paul, Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, R-Truth, and CM Punk. There are plenty of other superstars that fans would love to see, but with only 6 dates unaccounted for, there aren’t very many open spots left.

This will be Lesnar’s first match since he made his dramatic return at WWE SummerSlam, which was one of the most shocking moments of the event. That’s saying something when that was also the event where Seth Rollins revealed he had been faking his injury, and he would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on CM Punk. It remains to be seen how long a run Lesnar is back for, or if it’s just a short run tethered to Cena’s farewell tour.
