Every Jenna Ortega Movie Releasing Before Wednesday Season 3

The breakout success of Wednesday established the series as a genuine cultural phenomenon and one of Netflix’s most valuable properties. The first season became the streamer’s most-watched English-language show of all time, turning star Jenna Ortega into a household name and revitalizing The Addams Family for a new generation. The highly anticipated second season continued this impressive trajectory, building on its predecessor’s momentum to deliver massive viewership numbers. It quickly climbed the streaming charts, eventually earning a place on Netflix’s all-time Top 10 list by surpassing the total views of Stranger Things 3.

This sustained success has prompted Netflix to rapidly expand the franchise. A third season of Wednesday was officially announced in July 2025, even before the second season had premiered, signaling the streamer’s immense confidence in the show’s future. Development is also underway for a spinoff series centered on the fan-favorite character Uncle Fester, with Fred Armisen set to reprise his role. However, the nearly three-year gap between the first two seasons, partly due to industry-wide production delays, highlights a growing trend of longer waits for new installments of major television shows. This means that while fans eagerly await another semester at Nevermore Academy, they will have plenty of opportunities to see Ortega on the big screen in a variety of upcoming film projects.

1) The Gallerist

Ortega is set to star alongside Natalie Portman in the dark comedy The Gallerist, from Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan. The film is a satirical look at the high-stakes world of contemporary art, following a desperate gallery owner who concocts a bizarre scheme to pass off a dead body as a groundbreaking piece of art to be sold at the prestigious Art Basel Miami fair.

While the specific roles for Ortega and Portman have not been officially detailed, the combination of the two actresses has generated significant buzz. The project, co-written by Yan and James Pedersen, will also feature Portman as a producer. Principal photography for the film wrapped in early February 2025, positioning The Gallerist for a theatrical release sometime in 2026, though a specific date has not yet been announced.

2) Klara and the Sun

Ortega will take on the lead role in the film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed novel, Klara and the Sun. Directed by Taika Waititi, the dystopian science fiction story is told from the perspective of Klara (Ortega), an “Artificial Friend” designed to prevent loneliness in teenagers. The plot follows Klara after she is purchased by a mother (Amy Adams) for her brilliant but mysteriously ill daughter, Josie. Klara’s quest to save Josie and understand human emotion forms the core of the narrative.

Klara and the Sun boasts an impressive cast, with Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker, and Steve Buscemi joining Ortega and Adams. The screenplay was written by Dahvi Waller, with Ishiguro serving as an executive producer. Production on Klara and the Sun began in early 2024, and though a firm release date has not been set, the movie is expected to arrive in theaters in early 2026.

3) Ghostwriter

Ortega is also part of the high-profile cast for Ghostwriter, the upcoming fantasy film written and directed by J.J. Abrams. She will star alongside Glen Powell, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson in what will be Abrams’ first feature film since 2019. While the official plot details are being kept under wraps, the movie is rumored to be a fantasy adventure inspired by the 1984 sci-fi classic The Last Starfighter.

Filming for Ghostwriter has been taking place in several locations, including London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, with principal photography having started in April 2025. The project is still in production, and no release window has been announced yet. Given the scale of the production and the talent involved, Ghostwriter is one of the most anticipated projects on Ortega’s upcoming slate, likely hitting theaters by late 2026.
