It will take quite a bit of scrolling to find an unrecognizable name on an HBO show’s cast list. The network prides itself on being the cream of the crop, delivering quality shows that spare no expense. Just look at The Last of Us, which brings in notable names, such as Jeffrey Wright, Catherine O’Hara, and Nick Offerman, to play relatively small roles. But the video game adaptation doesn’t even hold a candle to Game of Thrones, the fantasy epic that throws Sean Bean’s Ned Stark to the wolves before the end of the first season. Nearly every episode of Game of Thrones features an Emmy-worthy performance, but one actor does a lot of the heavy lifting: Peter Dinklage.

Dinklage’s character is a member of the Lannister family, which is the worst of the worst in George R. R. Martin’s universe. They take what they want and don’t care who they step over to get it. Tyrion Lannister is different from his relatives, though, as he has some semblance of a conscience. The same can’t be said about Dinklage’s latest TV role, as he is much more Cersei Lannister than Tyrion.
Game of Thrones‘ Tyrion Lannister Has a Heart

It would be hard to blame Tyrion for becoming a villain. Since his mother died giving birth to him, nearly every member of his family can’t stand the sight of him. His father, Tywin Lannister, and his sister, Cersei, in particular, make it clear that they would love nothing more than to see him dead. There is even one attempt on his life that fails in spectacular fashion. However, despite all the hate coming his way, Tyrion still loves his family – at least until they plot to execute him by framing him for Joffrey Baratheon’s murder. At that point, the gloves are off, with him seeking out Daenerys Targaryen, who plans to overthrow Cersei and rule Westeros.
Seeing something great in Daenerys, Tyrion backs her fully, telling all of his former allies that she’s the one who can save them. All that faith turns out to be a mistake, though, as Daenerys begins to fall off the deep end. Killing innocents is too much for the Hand of the Queen to handle, so he does what he has to and tells Jon Snow to kill his beloved. Sure, Tyrion falls upward again and again, but he really does want what’s best for the realm. Unfortunately, the betterment of the world isn’t on the mind of Leon Prater, Dinklage’s character from Dexter: Resurrection.
Leon Prater Is the Worst of the Worst in the Dexter Universe

It’s not as bad as Westeros, but the world that Dexter takes place in still sees its fair share of bloodshed. Throughout the first three series, the titular serial killer comes across some evil figures, all of whom want to end the lives of innocent people. Dexter believes it’s his place to take them off the board, and he does a good job keeping his night job under wraps for a while. After getting exposed, though, he has to go on the run, which eventually leads him to New York City in Resurrection. It comes to light that a billionaire, Leon Prater, is bringing serial killers together to talk shop, which piques Dexter’s interest. However, Leon is far more dangerous than he lets on.
Rather than just being an obsessive fan who wants to learn more about why killers do what they do, Leon pushes people with urges to go further than they ever have before. The whole thing is a sick game to him, and instead of getting his hands dirty, he employs dangerous individuals to do the work for him. While Tyrion knows the value of having backup, he doesn’t rely on it when times get tough. Fortunately, with Dexter around, Leon is sure to get what’s coming to him.
Dexter: Resurrection is streaming on Paramount+.
