Since Riverdale is based on characters from Archie Comics, I incorrectly assumed that the teen drama would focus its first season on Betty and Veronica pitted against each other, trying to win over Archie’s affection like their comic book counterparts so often did. However, the show has been a wonderful surprise, deviating enough from the source material to keep things fresh and interesting.

One example would be the unexpected relationship that has developed between Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones, which fans of the television series like to refer to as “Bughead.” But now that Archie and Veronica might become an item after their drunken hook-up at Jughead’s birthday party, fans will have to come up with a ship name for them as well. KJ Apa, who plays Archie, already has one in mind.
“What would it be? Varchie?” Apa told Entertainment Tonight. His commented prompted Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead, to quip with a laugh: “Everything’s better than Bughead at this point!”
So is there a future for Archie and Veronica? “That all started in that first episode when she walked into the diner, and as soon as Archie saw her, he was like, ‘Woah, sh*t,’” Apa said. “That’s something that will be going on in the future, definitely.”
Betty (Lili Reinhart) is slammed overseeing Homecoming and Reunion weekend, but Alice (Madchen Amick) wants her to help with the Jason Blossom investigation.Alice turns to Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) for help, but when Betty discovers they are working with her mom, she is not happy.After seeing his father FP (guest star Skeet Ulrich) start to clean up his act, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) wonders if it’s the right time to give him another chance.
Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Polly (guest star Tiera Skovbye) have both decided to go to Homecoming in Jason’s honor, until a revelation waylays their plans.Meanwhile, Fred (Luke Perry) and Mary (guest star Molly Ringwald) attend the Homecoming dance, leaving Fred to possibly reconsider the divorce.Ashleigh Murray and Marisol Nichols also star.
