Mark Consuelos joins the cast of The CW teen mystery series as Hiram Lodge, the oft-mentioned but never-seen character from Season One.

Now Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first high-quality image of the character alongside his wife.

Read on to learn more about Consuelos’ thoughts on Riverdale’s newest arrival.

The Shark Comes To Riverdale

Hiram comes to the small town to join wife Hermione and daughter Veronica Lodge now that his covert corporate sabotage of the Blossom empire has finished.

“I like to say he’s like Jaws,” said Consuelos. “You didn’t see him. You knew he was there. There’s danger there. His presence is felt.”

Now that he’s on the show, Consuelos intimated to EW that fans will learn of how much of an influence he has in the lives of Hermione and Veronica.

“He loves loves loves his family and he’s fiercely protective over all of that and anything that has anything to do or comes into contact with his family,” Consuelos said. “Also, he probably loves power a little bit too. He’s enamored with that.”

Consuelos hinted at how Hiram will treat Archie Andrews and how the relationship with Veronica will affect their developing rapport.

“Is he manipulating him or is mentoring him? Is he mentoring him or is seeing what he’s made of? You really really don’t know, and I think that’s the fun part.”

Hiram’s Machinations

Despite not appearing in the first season, Hiram loomed large in his efforts to depreciate the value of the drive-in theater’s property before he purchased it. And then when Hermione hired Fred Andrews’ construction company to handle the contract, Hiram sent some goons to stop them from working.

This also brought him into contact with Clifford Blossom, who admitted to having him thrown in jail. Blossom also paid Fred’s employees better rates to work for him, temporarily halting the drive-in theater project.

All of this lead Veronica to believe that her dad might have had something to do with Jason Blossom’s murder as an act of revenge.

But fans learned the true reason why Jason was killed at the end of Riverdale‘s first season, and Hiram Lodge’s motivations became much more mysterious.

Expect to learn more about this mysterious character when Riverdale Season 2 returns to The CW on Wednesday, October 11 at 8 pm.
