When A Stranger Calls is a 1979 suspense film that is well-known for its big reveal — “the call is coming from inside the house.” That reveal is so tired to the move that the 2006 remake used it as a tagline.
The film centers around a babysitter who continually gets harassing phone calls while watching a group of children and it’s later revealed that the calls are coming from a murderer inside the house. The children are his next victims. The film is itself based on a popular urban legend as well as Black Christmas, a 1974 slasher flick.
The use of When A Stranger Calls as the title for next week’s episode of Riverdale is particularly interesting considering that Betty (Lili Reinhart) received a phone call from the Black Hood killer at the end of this week’s episode and, from the looks of things in the promo above will continue to receive the chilling calls.
And if the calls are coming from inside the house on Riverdale, it could mean that the Black Hood killer is far closer to Betty Cooper than anyone would have ever imagined.
Riverdale airs on Wednesday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
