The MCU Is About to Turn One of Its Weakest Characters Into the Strongest

The days of a green monster being the strongest character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are over. At least once a year, Marvel Studios introduces a character that changes the hierarchy of power in the franchise. Secret Invasion‘s G’iah held the crown for a while after being exposed to the Harvest, a collection of DNA that unlocked the power of several heavyweights, including Thanos and Captain Marvel. However, with her in the wind, the title of strongest character now belongs to Bob Reynolds, aka Sentry, from Thunderbolts*. In addition to his incredible strength, Sentry also has access to his alter-ego, the Void, who can consume the entire world if left unchecked.

The one thing Sentry has going against him is that, in order to keep the Void at bay, he has to lock the rest of his powers away. Another character, who isn’t known for their strength, isn’t going to have that problem when they receive a major upgrade in the near future. In fact, if they continue on the track they’re on, they could give Sentry a run for his money.

Katy Chen Is a Quick Learner in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Running away from his evil father puts Shang-Chi in between a rock and a hard place. He settles down in San Francisco and tries to live a normal life, getting a job as a valet. Katy Chen sees something in “Shaun,” and the two build a strong bond, which is put to the test when the Ten Rings organization comes to town. Shang-Chi has to reveal the truth about himself and his father, Wenwu, who is trying to return to the village Ta Lo because he believes his late wife is being held captive there. Not having much of a choice, Katy accompanies her friend and helps him get to Ta Lo to warn its inhabitants of the danger.

Since the Mandarin has a formidable force at his side, the people of Ta Lo decide to help Katy train for the impending battle. She grabs a bow and proves to be pretty effective. While she’s not Hawkeye just yet, she delivers a decisive blow to the Dweller-in-Darkness, allowing Shang-Chi to get the upper hand on the beast. Unfortunately, the characters from Shang-Chi take an extended leave of absence after their MCU debuts, forcing them to grab spots on animated series. But being relegated to the small screen might pay off for Katy because she’s going to gain access to the most powerful weapons in the universe.

Marvel Zombies Is Making Sure Katy Can Hold Her Own

Katy and Shang-Chi using the Ten Rings in Marvel Zombies.

The trailer for Marvel Zombies, which picks up after the events of the What If…? episode, “What Ifโ€ฆ Zombies?!,” features plenty of memorable moments. Blade gets a wild action scene where he slices and dices zombie Ghost, while Spider-Man finally gets to let loose and tear the heads off an entire horde of the undead. However, the most important moment comes when Shang-Chi arrives, with his Ten Rings in tow. He’s ready to knock around some zombies, but he doesn’t get to have all of the fun because Katy is by his side, using the same weapons he is.

While the origin of the Ten Rings is still a mystery in the MCU, there’s no way to downplay their significance. They allowed the Mandarin to conquer all of Asia by giving them enhanced strength and control of energy blasts. The Ten Rings also make their users immortal, which is sure to come in handy while fighting the undead. With Katy’s natural ability to pick things up quickly, she’s going to master the Ten Rings with little trouble and be well on her way to taking control of Marvel Zombies‘ post-apocalyptic world.

Marvel Zombies releases on Disney+ on September 24th.
