Padmé Amidala has returned in Star Wars‘ latest show, adding to the character’s legacy in surprising ways. Queen of Naboo, member of the Galactic Senate, and illicit wife of Anakin Skywalker, Padmé has a long history in the franchise, albeit a complicated one due to her controversial death in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Still, the saga has found ways to bring her back since then, most notably in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Disney+ has continued to discover ways of including her.

Most recently, that includes LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past. Although the show is non-canon, taking place in an alternate galaxy, it’s actually pretty great for Padmé, and gives us some meaningful scenes that would be impossible without its multiversal setting. In this galaxy, Padmé is now the Pirate Queen, aided by C-3PO and R2-D2. Like the main version, though, she has a strong sense to do what’s right, which includes joining the fight against the big new villain, Solitus. This not only reunites her with Vader (who isn’t a Sith Lord), but allows her to meet Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa for the first time, and learn that they’re her children.
It’s a rather heartfelt and humorous scene. Padmé acknowledges that Leia is just like her, while joking that, unfortunately, Luke is a lot more like his father, Ani. There’s a tragedy in the real Padmé’s story, given that she died shortly after giving birth, and while we might not be able to get a scene like this in the main galaxy, it’s still a genuinely sweet moment and nice to see it happen in some way.
Is Padmé Going To Make A Live-Action Star Wars Return?

The presence of Padmé in Pieces of the Past is not only a great moment in its own right, but raises the question of if we could ever see the proper version of the character on screen again. There’s no likelihood of her being resurrected – that’d be a step too far even for Star Wars – but there are theories about how she might come back, which largely center upon Ahsoka Season 2.
This could be something quite simple: Season 1 already had Clone Wars flashbacks, including a de-aged Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. With the actor confirmed to return, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Natalie Portman will return too for flashback or vision scenes, which could again take place via the World Between Worlds, easily allowing for multiple characters to be involved. And, for her part, Portman has said she’d be open to playing Padmé again if the right opportunity presented itself.
However, the even bigger theory about Padmé’s return in Ahsoka Season 2 puts a horrifying twist on things. Season 1’s ending set up a story with the Mortis Gods, whose statues – the Father, the Son, and the Daughter (though she’s headless) – are seen by Baylan Skoll. In addition to those three, there also used to be a Mother; a mortal woman who originally served them and later helped keep the peace between the family on the planet Mortis. In an effort to prevent herself from losing them, she sought to achieve immortality, tapping into forbidden powers. Her wish was achieved, but it transformed her into a twisted being of terrifying power called Abeloth, resulting in the Father imprisoning her.
Because Abeloth has the power to shape-shift then, if Ahsoka Season 2 is connecting everything to the Mortis Gods, it could take on Padmé’s face, with Portman playing the role. Anakin himself is deeply connected to the Mortis Gods and, with his Force Ghost on Peridea, there’s a clear way to have a reunion that would be anything but a happy one, but could add even more depth to their storied relationship.
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past is streaming on Disney+. Ahsoka Season 2 is expected to release sometime in 2026.
