12 years after the series premiered, Prison Break finally made its highly-anticipated comeback on Tuesday night. The original series ran for four seasons, but ended with Michael Scofield’s death in 2009.

The revival series is based around Michael actually being alive – and Lincoln trying to track him down – despite the fact that cancer took his life years ago.

While Michael was barely seen in the premiere, but the final minutes saw Lincoln coming face-to-face with the brother he thought dead. However, fans were thrown for a loop when Michael spoke for the first time.

He told Lincoln that he, in fact, was not Michael, and he had no idea who was standing in front him. With that, “Michael” walked back into the prison where he was being kept.

WHAT?!

Is there any chance that the man Lincoln tracked down in Yemen actually isn’t Michael? Or is the famous escape artist attempting some kind of long con that his brother can’t even know about?

There’s no telling what could be happening, but we’ve got a few ideas.

He’s Lying To Protect Lincoln

Fans of Prison Break would never doubt the strength of Michael and Lincoln’s bond. The brothers have been to hell-and-back together, and it’s tough to think that one of them would ever lie to the other.

However, in the past, Michael has lied to protect his brother. This could be one of those scenarios.

Although, this could be a different Michael than fans are used to. If playing dead had a toll on the guy, he may be colder at heart than he was in the past.ย

If that’s the case, Michael might just be pretending to be someone else. For Lincoln’s sake, let’s hope thisย isn’t the case.

ย

He Actually Believes He’s Someone Else

At the beginning of the episode, Michael’s voice was heard talking about the effects death can have on someone’s soul. It felt a bit out of place, but this scenario makes it seem a little more important.

It’s possible that – while this is actually Michael – he believes that he is someone else on the inside.

This is a little wacky, but it makes plenty of sense here.ย

It’s Not Michael

It’s always possible that Michael isn’t Michael at all. Perhaps the guy has a perfect doppleganger, who happens to be causing trouble in Yemen.ย

Or, and let’s hope this isn’t the case, Michael has a twin brother that Lincoln never knew about.ย

This scenario is the least likely, and the one fans would want to see the least, but it’s definitely possible. Great shows have made weirder choices, so don’t rule it out.
