After Wynonna Earp died for about two minutes earlier in this season, Season One big bad Bobo Del Rey reappeared, and series creator Emily Andras says an explanation of that — or at least an exploration — is coming.

There was already something of a soft explanation: the nature of the Earp family curse is such that the 77 demons the Heir has to kill will return from Hell when the next Heir turns 27 — but the death of the Heir has a disruptive effect, too, something that Wynonna alluded to in dialogue before dismissing it for more pressing matters. Moments later, though, Bobo revived, and has since been lurking in the background of episodes. Does that mean everyone is back? Well…no.
“I would say as far as Revenants, just Bobo is back. Genre is funny; I think you can play with all sorts of twists and turns on the mythology, but I think you have to establish some rules that you stick to, or you’re going to lose the audience,” Andras told ComicBook.com. “So we have basically said when Wynonna shoots these Revenants with Peacemaker, they go to Hell. There’s 77 of them, and if she cuts them all down, she breaks the curse. I think it would be too difficult and too start-over-y if all of the Revenants had come back, and I think there are a million reasons why Bobo would be the only one who would come back. I think that he was a good man, that he had a relationship with Wyatt Earp, that he was caught in the crossfire, he may have been the last Revenant made by Peacemaker by Wyatt Earp, and also that Wynonna shot him when he was outside of the Ghost River Triangle rather than inside the Ghost River Triangle.”
So what brought Bobo back from the dead? And did Wynonna’s trip to the past have something to do with it?
“It’s certainly our intention going forward to explain why Bobo is the Revenant who is back, but you can rest easy that the other Revenants from season 1 are not back, no. The tally remains of people she’s killed; she still has plenty to get, trust me,” Andras said.
The finale, which airs on tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SYFY, will pit Wynonna and her team against a demon freed from over a century in captivity…just as Wynonna’s water broke.
