It's been a strange last year for WWE Superstar Sheamus, aka Stephen Farrelly. The athlete and entertainer had arguably the best year of his career, with a feature film, appearing as Rocksteady in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, a WWE Money in the Bank Win and World Championship title run, and now an appearance in an animated film, Scooby Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon. But that title run was cut short, and his WWE storylines since have been on and off, as he'll bluntly talk about, failing to pick up any steam. Now, with a brand split that divided the WWE roster in two - half on Monday Night RAW and half on Smackdown Live, he does have hope that portion of his career will once again get rolling.

"I was so excited to be the sixth round draft pick after being WWE Champion seven months ago, it's amazing," Farrelly told Comicbook.com sarcastically when asked about about the brand split. "I mean, wow, to sit there and see your name come out at the very, very end of Smackdown LIVE, it was a proud moment for me, to be honest. Shows how far I've gone in the last seven months as a WWE Superstar. Right [Puts his hand in the air, and plunges it down] to the top!"

He said it all with a laugh, but then got honest about his hopes now that the split has gone into affect.

"Honestly, I just want to get into a decent storyline. I've been floating for awhile," Farrelly said. "The League of Nations could've been something really, really big… it wasn't. A lot of guys were frustrated about it in a way. We did the best of our ability; you take four killers – well three killers and an Englishman; I love you Stu! [referring to Stu "Wade Barrett" Bennett, who recently retired from WWE] But it's taken us time to get back where we need to be. But yeah, it's a great opportunity for everybody involved."

The performer has hopes that his time on RAW can be fruitful - and high hopes for who he'd like to see in the ring.

"I think [the Brand split] will be [great]. I just need to get myself a good story. I was looking forward to something with Apollo Crews, helping that kid, and then it was very stop-start. I had the movie with Turtles but I was hoping to get two pay per views out of it, because he's a great kid, he's gonna be a great star, just needs time, you know? I love being in the ring with him. The stuff he can do is incredible." Who else would he like ringtime with? He's aiming for some of the best and brightest the WWE has to offer. "I just want to sink my teeth into something good, maybe something with Finn Balor would be great, we had some matches in the UK. Seth [Rollins]'s another one, Dean [Ambrose - who is now on Smackdown] I never had a proper one with him. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, I just want to have a decent storyline, I don't care what it is. I just want to go out there and have fun and entertain the crowd!"

On the acting side, he said that the experience jumping into animation with Scooby Doo! was "a lot of fun. You get to act like a big kid." He admitted that being in a booth for "2, 3, 4, 6 hours" is grueling - "harder than even being in the ring."

Farrelly had fun, though, enough that he'd explore more animation or live-action opportunities.

"I'd love to [try a completely different character]. Doing different things is great. It's always good to change things up. If you do the same thing over and over it can get boring. I'll do these all day long," he said. "I've been in the ring for 7 years, and am always looking for something new to do when I'm not in the ring."

Scooby Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon is available now on Digital HD and DVD/Blu-Ray. Stephen Farrelly appears as Sheamus on WWE's Monday Night RAW live on USA Network Monday nights at 8pm.
