League of Legends' Ardent Censer No Longer Drains Health On PBE

Some tentative changes to League of Legends' Ardent Censer item removes its life-drain effect in return for flat on-hit damage.

The effect change for the most sought-after support item in League at the moment would take away a bit of the survivability that players receive when targeted by the item. When a champion who owns the item applies a shield or heal to an ally and grants them the buff, it currently causes auto attacks to drain 25 health on-hit. That number may not seem like much, but when a Tristana or Kog'Maw is laying down shot after shot with their own stats and Ardent Censer's attack speed buff, the sustain truly adds up.

Currently on the PBE, the Ardent Censer item has just two changes being tested. Aside from the health drain, the attack speed buff also changes depending on the recipient's level, according to the PBE notes:

Ardent Censer

• Passive effect's Attack speed bonus changed from [25%] to [20-35% based on target's level].
• Passive changed from [attacks drain 25 health on-hit] to [attacks deal an additional 20 - 35 on-hit (based on target's level)]

With the attack speed bonus granted by those who get the item's buff currently sitting at 25 percent, the change would actually be a nerf to the early game with a larger buff for the late game. Supports won't be giving quite as much attack speed as they do now when buying the item early on, but once everyone has their full builds and moves on to the late game, the item will grant a full 10 percent more attack speed than it does right now.

The change to the item's life-draining passive also operates in a similar way with it offering less on-hit damage initially for higher values later on, but the removal of the sustain will likely be a noticeable change throughout all stages of the game.

Changes for Ardent Censer are currently on the PBE for testing and may have their values altered before the next update goes live.
