We've already heard a few hints suggesting that Insomniac Games' highly anticipated Spider-Man game is coming sometime this fall, possibly even in September. However, a writer over at Marvel may have solidified that window even further.

Stephen Wacker, who works as a writer and producer over at Marvel Comics, recently made a comment over on his Twitter page, suggesting that there will be quite a battle between the web-slinger and the recently delayed Red Dead Redemption 2.

In case you missed the initial story, Red Dead was originally set for a spring release, but will now be arriving on October 26, right in the thick of the holiday season. But apparently, Spider-Man isn't too far off.

Wacker tweeted, "If the Spider-Man game and Red Dead come out near each other, I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my job." (You can see the tweet below.)

That isn't an indication of an exact release date, but it sounds like the PS4-exclusive action game could be very close to the release of Red Dead, which will make this holiday season very interesting, to say the least – especially for PlayStation 4 Pro owners.

Previous reports suggested that Spider-Man would be coming out at the end of September, but neither the developer nor Sony would confirm that information, only insinuating that the game would be coming out sometime in 2018. And considering it's still pretty deep in development, a late 2018 release seems much more likely.

Sony will likely confirm a release date for Spider-Man in just a few months, during its PlayStation press conference. The game has great presence at each of those showcases, with last year's demonstrating new gameplay featuring Mister Negative, as well as a glimpse inside Peter's world, alongside Spidey's. We'll possibly see even more leading up to the game's release and, hopefully, a playable demo that gives us an idea of what Spidey's gameplay range is all about.

Now we just need to wait for the game to come out – along with Red Dead Redemption 2, too. It's going to be a pretty long spring, and maybe even summer. At least we have some cool games to play in the meantime...

Insomniac Games' Spider-Man will release sometime this year for PlayStation 4.
