Pokemon Merchandise Takes An NSFW Twist

Pokemon is one of the most popular franchises amongst children around the world. Because of it's popularity Pokemon merchandise is everywhere, but some merchandise pokemon merchandise in Indonesia, does not look like something for children. A Squirtle pillow in an Indonesia store has been garnering some attention on Japanese Twitter as many say it inappropriate for children.

Twitter user @all_nations2 posted the picture seen above with the quote, "This Indonesian Squirtle is obscene." The tiny blue turtle Pokemon was turned into a giant pillow, and many think that it has a rather inappropriate shape. While it is unknown if the shape of the pillow is on accident or made to resemble something not so innocent is unknown, many Twitter users commented on the picture of the merchandise with quotes like:

"It's just a pillow. You all have dirty minds."
"When did Pokémon turn into 'adults only?'"
"It's so big."
"I mean, it makes sense. Squirtle is a turtle after all."

For those in West, the last quote may be a little bit confusing. In Japan and Asia "turtle head" is a common euphemism for male genitals. With that it mind, it is possible that this merchandise may be intentional, as Squirtle is one of the most popular turtles in the Pokemon series.

Later this year, the Pokemon Company is releasing their 20th Pokemon movie, I Choose You, which features a flashback to Ash Ketchum and Pikachu's earliest days. I Choose You is set to hit Japanese theaters on July 15, but there has been no American release date announced yet. Pokemon is currently available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, and Pokemon.com
