Pokemon Go players have found a new glitch that affects Apple devices running off an older operating system. Players who use the game on a device with iOS 9 have discovered that they can't log into the game using their Pokemon Trainers Club account.

The game returns an "unable to authenticate" error message when players try to sign into the game. Deleting and reinstalling the app won't fix the issue, nor will other common fixes for typical app errors.

At first, players assumed the login issues was related to the Pokemon Trainers Club servers, which have been buggy for months. However, it quickly became apparent that this was a problem that only affected players with older Apple devices that couldn't upgrade to the newest iOS version.

While Apple recommends that players update their operating systems regularly, many older devices simply don't have the capacity to use iOS 10. Affected devices include the third generation iPad, the original iPad Mini, and any iPhone 4S or older.

Notably, Pokemon Go claims that the game will run on any Apple device with an iOS of 8.0 or better.

Pokemon Go has taken note of the issue and has updated their "Known Issues" support page to reflect the new bug. While no fix has been found yet, the page claims that developers are still looking into the issue and recommends updating to the newest iOS issue if possible.
