It's been almost four years since the release of the Bioshock Infinite DLC, Burial at Sea, which stands as the last major new piece of content added to the Bioshock franchise. Recent rumors have been brewing around a new game addition to the franchise, and the opening of a small, nameless 2K-owned studio has only fueled the fire. Now, it looks as though an Insomniac Games veteran has joined the company, according to recent social media updates.

This past year marked the 10-year anniversary of the Bioshock franchise, and while special events gave fans fun ways to celebrate, very little news about the future of the saga came out of them. A few months back, 2K began hiring for a new studio located in Novato, California, and now, series veteran Shawn Elliott has apparently left Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Prey) to join 2K as a Principle Combat Designer.

It looks like 2k is still in the early process of hiring for this particular studio, given how many positions are still open, so don't get excited just yet. Unfortunately, rumors about the franchise continuing in any form are just that. It's likely that development on this title will take a little while, but it's fun to speculate until then.

Bioshock first released on August 21st, 2007, making headlines for its immersive storyline combined with creative game play and animation. Its sequel, Bioshock Infinite, followed in March of 2013,winning Game of the Year awards from a total of 42 publications at the end of that year, and arguably launching the career of one of gaming's most successful modern voice actors, Troy Baker, who voiced the player character, Booker DeWitt.

If you'd like to get acquainted with the franchise, you can pick up both Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
