Maybe it was the spirit of Halloween, but "The Walking Dead" ranked in as the top selling comic book of October 2014, Diamond Comics Distributors announced this morning.

The saga of Rick Grimes and the zombie apocalypse continued with "The Walking Dead #132," which saw the finale of the six-part "A New Beginning" storyline. Sales on the title were likely bolstered by the issue's inclusion of October's LootCrate box, but possibly also the Season Five premiere of AMC's The Walking Dead, which aired on October 12th.

Marvel and DC Comics rounded out the following nine best-selling comics of the month, with Marvel claiming seven spots on the list, and DC only managing two. Marvel's best-selling titles were "Death of Wolverine #4," "Thor #1," and "Death of Wolverine #3." DC's top performers were "Batman #35" and "Harley Quinn Annual #1."

Looking at overall industry results, Marvel was the top publisher for October with 34.82% dollar market share and 36.35% unit market share. DC Entertainment came in second by a sizable gap, taking in 27.53% dollar share and 31% unit market share. Image was third with 9.77% dollar share and 12.28% unit share. Compared to October 2013, total industry comic dollar shares were up by 6.3% and unit shares were up by 9.64%
