Though his long-gestating Justice League Dark has yet to materialize into a green-lit project, director Guillmero del Toro already knows which denizens of the Dark DC Universe he’ll enlist for the eventual film.

In an interview with Collider, del Toro said he plans to use Swamp Thing, Etrigan, Deadman and Zatana for Dark’s roster. Surprisingly, John Constantine wasn’t mentioned as a candidate. But the remark was a bit of a coda to a much larger interview about del Toro’s The Strain television series, so it’s difficult to say if the director missed any other cast members inadvertently or not.
Along with revealing the supposed roster, del Toro said that Justice League Dark is “A very different universe.” This seems to further substantiate the remarks that the DC films outside of the primary Justice League purview would exist in their own isolated universes. Supposedly, those films would be part of a “Vertigo”-like slateย of standalone films, produced by Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinemas.
No official word on a Justice League Dark film has been released yet, but according to a Forbes interview (via iDigitalTimes) this week, del Toroย turned in a completed script to Warner Bros. last week.
“Today [Nov. 25], the completed screenplay for Dark Universe officially went to weekend reads at Warner Bros. The studio’s reactions to the script will be coming back in a few days, and the film could take another step toward production if Warner has a favorable opinion of what they see on the page,” del Toroย told Forbes.
