Spider-Man loves cracking a good joke, and his latest gag on fandom has percolated all the way up to Avengers: Age of Ultron helmer Joss Whedon.

When supposed Age of Ultron stinger footage featuring Spider-Man hit the Internet last weekend, many started to wonder if Marvel would bring the Wall Crawler into the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the Avengers sequel after all. And while Marvel has said on the record that Spider-Man wouldn't appear in Age of Ultron and there will not be a post-credits scene, the "leaked" footage looked just convincing enough to get fans' hopes up.

But, Whedon himself confirmed that the footage was fake, reiterating in a recent panel that Spider-Man will not appear in Age of Ultron's post-credits scene. You can see his full response to the leaked footage below.

And even though it's fake, the Spider-Man post-credits scene for Avengers: Age of Ultron is still pretty fun to watch. It's embedded below in case you missed it.

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1. As for Spider-Man…that's anyone's guess for now.
