Netflix To Double Number Of Original Shows In 2016

Fans of shows like Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt, Marvel's Daredevil, and Master of None better be prepared for Netflix's planned 2016. Ted Sarandos, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, said that the company will launch twice as much original content in 2016.

Wired reports that Sarandos commented on the the company's desire to expand and already has a hefty slate scheduled for next year. Sarandos said that 31 scripted series in 2016, compared to the 16 just this year, are in production. Along with that, there are new kids' shows, stand-up specials, and 10 feature films scheduled for release.

"This is high quality stuff," Sarandos praised. "This is programming people want to watch." And he's not wrong. This year alone, both of Marvel's original series Daredevil and Jessica Jones were huge hits, and Master of None has garnered a slew of praise as well. Netflix is also another outlet to host shows that didn't have the chance to be picked up by a standard channel. I mean, look at House of Cards for instance. Netflix is quickly becoming a powerhouse for shows to let creators create without any network hassle or interference.

So what could this mean for Marvel shows in general? Well, the Defenders, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage series are already in the works, but could there be more? There's been rumors circulating for a while about a Moon Knight series, and it seems there's plenty of room for She-Hulk or other B-listers that could support their own show. Hellcat, anyone?
