Hideo Kojima To Be Inducted Into Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has announced that it will induct Hideo Kojima as the 21st member to its Hall of Fame. Kojima created the Metal Gear series, which pioneered the stealth game genre.

The 2015 Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Kojima during the 19th D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony on Feb. 18, at the Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas by Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro worked with Kojima on the now defunct Silent Hills project.

It's been a tumultuous year for Kojima, due to a falling out with Konami which led to the dissolution of Kojima's studio, Kojima Productions, as a subsidiary of Konami, and its rebirth as an independent studio. Kojima concluded his time on Metal Gear Solid with the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but was reportedly barred by Konami from accepting an award on the game's behave at The Video Game Awards.

Kojima will join other videogame luminaries in the AIAS Hall of Fame, including BioWare founders Dr. Greg Zeschuk and Dr. Ray Muzyka. Dan Houser, Sam Houser, and Leslie Benzies of Rockstar Game, and Valve's Gabe Newell.
