The animated film will be coming to Netflix later this year, and will include the vocal talents of Kelsey Grammar (Frasier, BOSS), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek series, Terminator Salvation) via Deadline, which he announced at the Annecy Animation Festival.
The story revolves around a teenager named Jim (voiced by Yelchin) and his two friends who discover a mystical amulet. That amulet leads him to the unearthing of a long-waged war between the kingdom of trolls, both good and bad, which is taking place beneath his hometown. A good troll named Blinky is played by Grammer, who befriends Jim and his pals, while an evil troll named Bular is played by Perlman, and will be the main antagonist.
The Dreamworks animation project is final culmination of del Toro’s long-gestating Trollhunters, which was previously supposed to be a 3D animated project, and then sat in limbo until Del Toro teamed with Daniel Krause to release the story as an illustrated novel. After that, Netflix and Dreamworks teamed up to make it a reality.
Trollhunters is being Executive Produced by Guillermo del Toro, Marc Guggenheim, and Christina Steinberg. Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman are listed as Co-Executive Producers, and Chad Hammes is listed as Producer.
Trollhunters will hit Netflix in December of this year.
