UPDATE (7/8): Servers are looking stable for Pokemon Go for the most part, but we've recently seen an issue with users not able to log in to the game using their Trainers Club accounts. This was a great and easy way for long time Pokemon fans to get started in the game, and now are being penalized for their choice. We'll keep this space updated as we learn more.

UPDATE: It looks like Niantic Labs is working around the clock to get servers back up and running for folks, but service seems to be spotty depending on what region of the country you are in. Some readers have pointed out that if you exit the app completely and try to login in again, you might have some better luck. Otherwise, you'll just have to wait.

As millions of people log onto Pokemon GO for the first time, it appears that the game's servers are struggling to keep up. Fans have been reporting periodic outages to Pokemon GO all day, with interruptions ranging from a few minutes to the better part of an hour. Niantic Labs confirmed on their official Pokemon GO Twitter account that the server problems were due to the high traffic load.

Even when the game's servers aren't down, the high traffic load has caused problems. Connection issues have caused the game to crash at inconvenient times, particularly while trying to catch Pokemon or use items. While people expected Pokemon GO to be popular, no one expected just how well the app would do. Despite the frequent outages, the game is still the most downloaded game on the Apple App Store.

It's likely that the outages will calm down as Niantic adds more servers to deal with the traffic and the hype for the game dies down a bit. In the meantime, follow
