If J.J. Abrams and Justin Lin have their way, audiences might get to see two Captain Kirks on the Enterprise.

Abrams, who directed the original Star Trek reboot in 2009 and its sequel Star Trek: Into Darkness, is not directing Star Trek Beyond. He is still a producer on the franchise, with Justin Lin taking over directorial duties on the film.
Expectations are high for Beyond, and early reports are leaning towards the positive, so it makes sense that plans for another entry are already in the works.
Abrams confirmed that when he spoke to Collider during his recent press tour. He was asked if they’ve thought of ideas for a possible Star Trek 4. “Yes, and there’s something that hopefully we’re figuratively minutes away from talking about. The answer is 100% yes, and it’s incredibly exciting.”

Now we might have an inkling of what that proposition consists of thanks to reporter Scott Mantz, who tweeted “BREAKING!! #JJAbrams confirms to me that a 4th #StarTrek movie will bring together #ChrisPine & #ChrisHemsworth!!”
Abrams made alternate timelines and realities a big part of his Star Trek universe, so it could definitely be done. Seeing the two interact on screen would be unreal, as Kirk (played by Chris Pine) has spent so much time attempting to create his own legacy in the films.
Hopefully, this turns out to be true, and we should hear more about it at San Diego Comic-Con.
