Lionsgate has released a pair of television spots for Blair Witch, a sequel to 1999's The Blair Witch Project that was made on the down low and finally revealed during its midnight premiere at San Diego Comic-Con.

"When James was four-years-old, his older sister (Heather Donahue's character from the original film) disappeared while making a documentary near the town of Burkittsville, Maryland," says Lisa (Callie Hernandez) in one of the new TV spots. "The final moments of it showed her going into a house, seemingly in the Black Hills Forest. That area was extensively searched by police and FBI, but they could find no evidence of an existing house in those woods. For as long as I've been friends with James, he's wondered what happened to her. His continued search to find closure and answers to his sister's disappearance is the subject of this documentary."

A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James' sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.

The cast features James Allen McCune (Showtime's Shameless), Callie Hernandez (Alien: Covenant), Brandon Scott (Wreck-It Ralph), Valorie Curry (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2), Corbin Reid (The Woods), and Wes Robinson (The Woods).

The film is directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett. The pair previously collaborated on You're Next (2013)and The Guest (2014).

Blair Witch will be released on September 16, 2016.
