Two new clips have made their way online from director Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, spotlighting star Benedict Cumberbatch before and after the accident that cost him the use of his hands.

The first clip, “The Strange Policy”, depicts Strange before his accident, as he flirts a bit with Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams). He asks her to a speaking engagement, but it doesn’t go so well.

No you had fun. They weren’t about us, they were about you. Stephen, everything is about you.”

Ouch. Not saying it’s not true, but still, ouch.

The second clip, titled “Heal The Body”, takes place soon after Strange meets Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One. To say the initial conversation doesn’t go smoothly would be an understatement.

“You’re a man looking at the world through a keyhole and you’ve spent your whole life trying to widen that keyhole. To see more, to know more, and now on hearing that it can be widened in ways you can’t imagine, you reject the possibility.”

You can view both clips in the videos above.

From Marvel Studios comes “Doctor Strange,” the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place โ€“ a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long, Strange โ€“ armed with newly acquired magical powers โ€“ is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.
