Director Scott Derrickson is just about ready to unleash his vision for Doctor Stange upon audiences worldwide, and for that honor, he paid a handsome price.

Derrickson appeared alongside actress Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) in an interview with Yahoo, and during their conversation, Derrickson reveals that he paid a hefty amount of money in his quest to get the job.

"I spent an obnoxious amount of money of my own money. I made storyboards, I hired professional storyboard artists and I did my own previs, and I wrote 12 pages, a 12-page scene in the movie, and illustrated it completely, and created my own concept art and went in and did a 90-minute presentation that cost me a lot of money."

Thankfully he didn't wear a levitation cloak or costume to the presentation, much to Swinton's dismay. The good news is that he ended up getting that money back when he was officially offered the job.

"And, the great thing is though, when I got the job, they had to buy all of it from me, because one of the set pieces in the middle of the movie was the scene I wrote, and they needed to own everything because a lot of it ended up being the movie we made, so I got all my money back. I was commited. I was going to outspend every competing director."

It would be hard to see that sort of effort and not give him the job, and fortunately, all that work seems to have paid off, as Doctor Strange is already getting positive reviews.

From Marvel Studios comes "Doctor Strange," the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place – a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long, Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.

"Doctor Strange" stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, and Scott Adkins, with Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. Scott Derrickson is directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Charles Newirth and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. Jon Spaihts and Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill wrote the screenplay.

Doctor Strange lands in theaters on November 4.
