Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki Reveal Their Wish For Supernatural Finale

Back in 2005, an icon was born. No, not a person - a show. More than a decade ago, Supernatural premiered to the delight of fans. The show has since become one of the longest-running series in the history of The CW, and it queued up its twelfth season earlier this month. After all these years, fans are starting to wonder whether there is an end in sight for Supernatural. No one knows when the show might end, but it looks like the stars of the show have one big request for the finale.

What might that wish be? Eric Kripke.

During a recent interview with TV Line, actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles talked about their lengthy gigs on Supernatural. When they were asked about the show's finale, Padalecki confessed that Ackles and he would like to see Kripke return for the episode.

"I don't like to say, 'When the show ends,' because the show's not going to end," Padalecki explained. "But when the show does start to wrap down, I would love to see Eric come back and give his opinion. Because he created us in the first place, so it would be an honor."

Ackles also chimed in, saying, "It would be a nice little bow on top of the whole thing [to] have Eric take us out."

When Supernatural premiered, it did so because of Kripke. The creator developed the story of Sam and Dean Winchester before it was picked up by the WB. He served as a primary showrunner for the first five season as Kripke intended for the series to have only that many seasons. However, the show continued, and Kripke made the decision to exit so he could pursue other projects.

Currently, Kripke is working on NBC's Timeless, and TV Line asked if he would be interested in revisiting Supernatural for old-time's sake. Kripke answered jokingly, saying, "When I'm 90?"

"I do fantasize that it would be great to at least come in and be a co-writer of the finale, whenever that would be," Kripke continued. "But obviously that depends on what [executive producer] Bob Singer wants, what [co-showrunner] Andrew Dabb wants [and] what I'm doing at the time. But yes, the idea of it would be cool, if possible."

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether Ackles and Padalecki get their wish granted. However, according to Ackles, the actor will be happy so long as Padalecki has no part in co-writing the finale.

With the Supernatural fandom growing daily, it is hard to predict when the show will end. The stars talked about the series' end earlier this summer with Entertainment Weekly, and they hinted they wanted to make it to episode 300 before wrapping.

Jensen said, "In a marathon, I keep my sights on that next mile, wherever that might be. And 300's a good number to work for." Padalecki also commented on the milestone, saying, "If we don't make it to 300, I think Ackles and I will both be truly bummed. When we get to 300, I think Ackles and I will think it might be time to say bye. There's a chance that changes, but we certainly do not take it for granted that we're going to make it to 300."

Supernatural's executive producer also discussed the show's end as well. Bob Singer said the series deserved a finale. "It would be bad for this show to just ride off in the sunset without a finale," he said. "I think we've earned that. I don't know what that finale is, but we'd certainly like to do one."
