The sequel that some thought would never happen is finally starting to pick up steam, and the studio has added a new actor to the mix.

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, which is being directed by Steve S. DeKnight (Daredevil), has just cast Spartacus actor Nick Tarabay in an unknown role. Tarabay previously worked with DeKnight on Spartacus, as DeKnight was the showrunner at the time (via Variety).

Tarabay has also been featured on shows like Castle, Longmire, Person of Interest, Arrow, and The Expanse. He was also featured in Star Trek Into Darkness. Tarabay joins an already talented cast that includes John Boyega (Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens), Scott Eastwood (Snowden), Levi Meaden (Aftermath) and Jin Tian (Kong: Skull Island), and the sequel is being produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Guillermo del Toro, Boyega, and Femi Oguns, with Cale executive producing.

Meaden couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of the project, saying: "I'm a huge Guillermo del Toro fan, so I loved the first one. I mean, it's giant monsters fighting giant robots! You got what you expected out of it and it was a lot of fun! It's a new team, a great team. We got Steven DeKnight who just did the last season of Daredevil. They're taking it in a whole new direction and there's a lot of stuff going on. I'm just excited to get out there, see the set, see what we're dealing with," he said. "It's going to be a lot of fun! I'm super excited, stoked, and kind of aghast at the whole thing!"

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is currently slated for release on February 23, 2018.
