Last year, Toei Animation revived one of the most popular anime franchises of all-time. The studio created Dragon Ball Super a hiatus of more than 15 years. And, when the show debuted, it did so with some serious power.

The anime takes place several years after Majin Boo wreaked havoc on Earth. The Z-Fighters used their collected Dragon Balls to wipe away the memories of the psychotic pink villain, but Earth doesn’t stay peaceful for long. Soon, the Saiyans are faced with new threats who come to destroy the planet — and a few familiar faces resurface as well.
With more than 60 episodes, Dragon Ball Super has just started to explore the rich universe into which it was born, and it already has plenty of ‘Oh man!’ moments.

Return Of Goku, The Radish Farmer
Alright, so this moment isn’t a particularly badass one. There’s no kamehameha bombs going off. There aren’t any Z-Fighters getting wrecked by extraterrestrial villains. Instead, this first moment is a nostalgic one, and it reminds fans why they fell in love with Son Goku years ago.
In the first episode of Dragon Ball Super, fans are reintroduced to Goku and his family where they live a peaceful life together. The gang now works as radish farmers, and Goku takes the job very seriously alongside his sons Goten and Gohan. However, the men are kept in line by their matriarch Chi-Chi who won’t stand for their shenanigans.
Watching the new show’s premiere feels like being welcomed back to a home you once knew. The heroes look the same as they were when audiences left them, and Dragon Ball Super promises fans the franchise would remind them of the good-old days.
Goku Versus Berus
Since Dragon Ball Super features many character with wiped memories, the anime gives audiences a chance to rewatch their favorite villains fight the Z-Fighters for the first time. One of these antagonist is none other than Beerus, a God of Destruction. And his first encounter with Goku in the series is a violent one, for sure.
In the show, Beerus awakens from a 39 year-long nap after being told by an oracle he would one day face an enemy called the Super Saiyan God. Beerus begins searching for the fighter as soon as he wakes up and kills thousands in his pursuit. Gradually, he begins to remember previous encounters with a Saiyan named Goku through his dreams, but Beerus is ultimately disappointed when he meets the guy.
Hot-headed as ever, Goku challenges the feared god to a spar, but his reckless approach only ends in violence. The Saiyan is unable to land a single punch on Beerus, and the anthropomorphic cat-figure then doubles-down on the hero. Beerus incapacitates Goku with a painful nerve jab before going off to challenge Vegeta instead.
Goku Reaches Super Saiyan God State
After Goku discovers he is unable to defeat Beerus with his current power, the Saiyan decides he needs to level-up his skills. And, to do so, the Z-Fighter simply elevates himself until he can reach the Super Saiyan God form.
The miraculous state is a fabled one within the Dragon Ball universe. In the canon, the form is said to have prompted Frieza to annihilate the Saiyan race because he felt threatened by the state’s all-consuming power. So, when Goku reaches the form in Dragon Ball Super, it is awe-inspiring to see.
Goku learns how to reach the state after he summons the dragon Shenron to teach him. The ancient being fears Beerus, but he tells Goku he can achieve the form through a Saiyan ritual. Six righteous Saiyans must encircle Goku and pass their powers unto him.
Needless to say, Beerus learns that it’s harder to push around Goku when he goes Super Saiyan God.
Goku Goes Super Saiyan Blue
If you thought Super Saiyan God was the most powerful state in the Dragon Ball franchise, then think again. Dragon Ball Super one-upped itself when it introduced yet another devastating Saiyan state know all Super Saiyan Blue.
In the anime, the form is displayed most prominently during Goku and Vegeta’s battle against Zamasu and Black Goku. The latter two prove to be more difficult to defeat than the Z-Fighters believed, so Goku and Vegeta enter the Super Saiyan Blue state to finish things. However, Black Goku still manages to give them grief with his Super Saiyan Rose state until Vegeta pumps up with some time-traveling training.
Goku and Vegeta’s fusion, Vegito, can also enter the form. If that doesn’t make it one of the most powerful transformation in the Dragon Ball universe, then what else could?
Future Trunks Reveals New Super Saiyan State
In the most recent arc of Dragon Ball Super, there have been plenty of great moments for fans to flail over. However, few of them can compete with Future Trunk’s explosive new Super Saiyan state.
The untitled form is appropriately called Super Saiyan Anger by fans because it sends Future Trunks into a rage. The beloved character powers into the state after a prolonged battle with Goku Black. The new transformation is likely linked to Trunk’s Saiyan-Human hybridity, so fans are eager to explore the hero’s powers as Dragon Ball Super moves forward.
