Hasbro and Paramount Pictures have been eager to kickstart their Transformers cinematic universe and assembled a writers room to help flesh it out. It’s been known that Bumblebee was being pitched as a solo feature, but up until now, the studio couldn’t find a script it felt comfortable with. Hodson, a newer addition to the crew, is credited with the winning pitch, and Paramount is targeting a 2018 release date (via Deadline).
Hodson has had the hot hand since becoming a full-time writer. She sold The Eden Project to Sony and Material Pictures, penned a script for Warner Bros. and Arnold Kopelson’s The Fugitive reboot, and is working on the Harley Quinn spinoff for Warner Bros.
As for Bumblebee, he will next be seen in the fifth entry of the Transformers franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight. Through caught footage and teasers, many think that the Last Knight portion of the title refers to Arthur and Camelot. Optimus Prime is on the hunt for an artifact that can restore Cybertron to what it once was, and many assume that artifact will indeed be the legendary sword Excalibur.
The cast of Transformers: The Last Knight stars Mark Wahlberg (“Planet of the Apes”) as Cade Yeager, Isabela Moner (“100 Things To Do Before High School”) as Izabella, Josh Duhamel (“Life as We Know It”) as Lieutenant Colonel William Lennox, and Tyrese Gibson (“Furious 7”) as Robert Epps, as well as Jerrod Carmichael (“Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising”), Anthony Hopkins (“Thor: The Dark World”), and the iconic Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime.
Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23rd, 2017.
