Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure. And in Netflix’s case, the CW has two shows it is trashing that might have a home on the streaming network. The CW will no longer be ordering episodes of No Tomorrow and Frequency. Both shows will conclude their first seasons after 13 episodes. No Tomorrow’s finale will air on January 17 and Frequency’s finale will air January 25.

Both shows will head to Netflix eight days after their finales. There is no chance for either of these shows to be renewed on Netflix, but (and this is a big ‘but’) there is a chance for the shows to get renewed for second seasons on the streaming network. Netflix could start becoming a platform where shows live a second life. If viewership is good enough, it could warrant production for a second season with both shows.
Netflix will be making a huge step into the cable lane moving forward so this strategy with bringing on dead shows for a chance at revival might prove worthy. It seems to be a low-cost plan that has the potential to do some great on the backend. With their slowing U.S. subscriber growth currently rests at 47 million. So far, its 2.76 million domestic subscribers added over the first nine months of 2016 represent a 32% decline from new additions over the same period last year.
The X1 platform Netflix is introducing with Comcast gives the cable network a bit of a boost. While the overall pay-TV industry has seen a decline in subscribing homes, Comcast has added 170,000 video subscribers over the past twelve months. According to Comcast CEO Neil Smit, X1 is something like a DVR, but on steroids.
