Surprise! Three of the most inventive and engrossing television series have all been nominated for various Critics’ Choice Awards.

The suprise sci-fi hit of the summer Stranger Things from Netflix, repeat offender fantasy drama Game of Thrones from HBO, and newcomer sci-fi drama Westworld also from HBO have made it to the top of the list.

With one hour long 10-episode seasons, showrunners are able to use bigger budgets to give audiences more of a cinematic experience than ever before.

“In this golden age of peak TV, viewers have an embarrassment of riches to choose from every day and night,” said BTJA president Joey Berlin. “The Critics’ Choice Awards are chosen to help people find the best of the best. We can’t wait until December 11 to celebrate with all these incredibly deserving nominees.”

HBO leads the television honors with 22 nominations, followed by ABC and Netflix with 14 each, and FX with 12.

Game of Thrones has been nominated for 5 awards, Westworld has been nomiated for 3 awards, and Stranger Things for 1 award. All will be competing against each other for the Best Drama Series award.

“The Critics’ Choice Awards” are bestowed annually by the BFCA and BTJA to honor the finest in cinematic and television achievement. The BFCA is the largest film critics’ organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 300 television, radio and online critics. BFCA members are the primary source of information for today’s film-going public. BTJA is the collective voice of almost 100 journalists who regularly cover television for TV viewers, radio listeners and online audiences. Historically, the “Critics’ Choice Awards” are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations.

The winners will be revealed live at the star-studded Critics’ Choice Awards gala, which will be broadcast from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on A&E on Sunday, December 11 at 8PM ET/ 5PM PT. T.J. Miller will serve as the show’s host.
