The past few weeks have been intense for Carrie Fisher. The Star Wars actress has been busy promoting her upcoming book The Princess Diarist and fielding dozens of question about an illicit affair she had. It wasn’t long ago that Fisher confirmed she had an affair with Harrison Ford while the two were filming Star Wars, and the news stunned fans. Now, the actress is talking more about Ford’s reaction to the admission and saying she feels like she ambushed him with it.
In a recent interview with NPR’s Fresh Air, Fisher said she feels like Ford is unhappy with her over the revelation, but she stressed she gave him every chance to nix the admission.

“I said, ‘I found the journals that I kept during the first movie, and I’m probably going to publish them,” Fisher said. “And he just sort of raised his finger and said, ‘Lawyer!’ And then I said, ‘No, I won’t write anything that you don’t want. I mean, I’ll show it to you before and you can take anything out that you want taken out. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,’ which I, of course, have. Unduly uncomfortable.”
The actress did as promised and sent the book over for review, but Fisher said she never heard anything back from Ford on the matter. “I never heard back, so I can’t imagine that he was comfortable with everything that was in it. But it’s not like it’s negative about him โ it’s just a personal story that’s been a secret for a long time.”
Still, Fisher did say she can understand why Ford would be displeased with the situation given the media frenzy it created. “I wouldn’t have ambushed him like that, but it’s still โ no matter if I told him or not, it probably feels like an ambush,” Fisher explained. “It feels like an ambush to me, and I’m the one that wrote it.”
Later in the interview, Fisher went on to talk about how her real-life affair with Ford helped bring chemistry to Han and Leia’s relationship. She said, “I think it made us more comfortable with one another. I think it made me more able to wisecrack to him, even if I was insecure. We were having an affair, so there was something to base some security on, I don’t know. There was chemistry there and you can see it. So I don’t know which came first, the chemistry in the film or the chemistry in the world.”
Of course, this is not the first time Fisher has spoken about the affair since it was made public. Recently, the actress spoke with Rolling Stone and even commented on whether she wished the romance had been with Mark Hamill instead.
“NO! No. But I suppose I would have been able to laugh about it with him,” she said. “That’s not something I can do with Harrison, though “lawyer” was pretty funny. At least it acknowledged that it existed.”
