Bad Boys 3 isn’t even out yet, but the next installment of the franchise, Bad Boys 4, has had its release date moved.

The film was previously scheduled to release on July 3 of 2019, but the next installment of Spider-Man:Homecoming will bump it to Memorial Day weekend, which takes place on May 24, 2019 (via Deadline).

The announcement comes on the heels of the debut trailer, which received an immense amount of positive response online and on social media. It didn’t take long for the studio to stake out a claim on the release calendar.

As for Bad Boys, both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back for the third entry in the series, which is being directed by Joe Carnahan. Carnahan previously discussed how he’s approaching the film, doing his best to avoid the pitfalls that most third entries face.

“Unless you’re Toy Story 3, usually third ones aren’t the strongest, and I think this one will be the strongest of the trilogy thus far. There’s a lot of funny shit in this movie,” he said. “And there’s also a very mysterious, but tonally spot-on story that I think is kind of perfect for where we are in this day and age, where the guys are and reflectively, a very modern take on these guys. It’s kind of what becomes of Bad Boys when they’re not boys anymore.”

There will be plenty of fan service in the film for longtime fans, but Carnahan isn’t letting that run off the rails.

“There are obviously little things you want to tip your hat too but I think the danger is becoming this slavish ‘We have to check all these boxes’,” Carnahan said. “There aren’t these legions of people demanding your head because you didn’t bring back John Salley or you didn’t bring back Joe Pantoliano. I think you have to be careful with that. I’m always interested in ‘I know what has been done. What hasn’t been done?’ If not it’s just regurgitating old tropes and ideas and that’s not fun for anybody”

Bad Boys 3 is slated to hit theaters on January 12, 2018, while Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to drop on
