In a video for EW and People, McDermitt outlines a survival guide for fans who don’t know how to manage the wait for the second half of the season.

As you probably know, McDermitt plays Eugene on the show, a character who has managed to make it this far into the series – so you know the guy has mastered survival.

The tips McDermitt presents are completely hilarious, and cover a wide range of topics. His first tip was one of the funniest of the video, making fun of the show’s cliffhangers.

This tip sees McDermitt saying that you should tell your friends that you’re going to take one of them to dinner – then not tell anyone who it’s going to be for the next seven months. Like the actor says, “People love cliffhangers.”

Another tip pokes fun at Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s roles prior to portraying the infamous villain Negan. In one of his first breakout gigs, Morgan played the dying patient Denny Duquette on Grey’s Anatomy. The character fell in love with Katherine Heigl’s character, and died a very sad, very soap opera style death. McDermitt jokes that people will like this version of Negan much better.

Watch the video to check out all of McDermitt’s Walking Dead Hiatus Survival tips, and figure out just how you’re going to make it to February.
