It was always an ambitious plan for Warner Bros. and DC Films to kickstart their DC Cinematic Universe, mostly because they needed to play catch up with what Marvel Studios had taken years to do. That plan is expansive and has planned out for years at this point, so it makes sense that one guy can’t be producing all of it.
Warner Bros. producer Chuck Roven recently announced that he is stepping back a bit on the DC Films front, and he recently sat down with THR to discuss why he ultimately made that decision.

“The studio made me the producer of all the DC movies, and they announced eight. When we finished the [timetable], we looked at each other and said, “This is incredibly ambitious, but we haven’t taken into consideration if something goes wrong.” We also hadn’t decided where we were going to shoot those movies. As difficult as it was for me to commute from Toronto to London to Italy, it became really clear I couldn’t do the job that I do as a producer [with Aquaman likely to shoot in Australia]. I’m for sure producing the sequels of the movies that I have made.”
It makes sense that he would need to scale back, especially with the locations for the future installments so in flux. Like he mentioned, he’ll also still be involved with sequels like Justice League, the possible Justice League 2, and the recently announced Suicide Squad 2.
In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroesโBatman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flashโit may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ciarรกn Hinds, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg.
