Earlier this year, fans were finally told just who would be playing Carol Danvers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Interest in the character reached an all-time high after Marvel Studios confirmed Captain Marvel would become the company’s first female-led feature in its cinematic universe. Brie Larson was confirmed to be the lucky actress who nabbed the coveted role, and the Oscar-winning starlet has not shied away from her excitement over the job. And, now, Larson has left fans in stitches over her latest Instagram post about the beloved heroine.

Not long ago, Larson posted a rather hilarious and meta photo to her social media account. The actress posted a photo of a comic panel from next week’s issue of Spider-Man/Deadpool. The twelfth issue will feature Captain Marvel, and Larson shared an picture of the heroine talking about his real-life counterpart.
“No, I wanted Room with Brie Larson,” Captain Marvel says to an unknown character outside of the panel. “Not The Room โ side note. You know this guy is an alien, right? He’s a wanted criminal. The Guardians have been looking for him for years.”
This is not the first time Larson has updated fans on the kinds of research she’s been doing for Captain Marvel. Back in August, the actress posted to Instagram and told her followers she has set up a sort of Captain Marvel HQ in her home. Larson lovingly referred to the space as Larson Industries R&D Department, and a slew of comics and trades could be seen scattered about.
In recent interviews, Larson has also talked about why in particular attracted her to the role of Captain Marvel. Speaking with Space Channel, the actress said she’s excited to watch as Captain Marvel becomes a symbol for girls everywhere.
“You know, the thing that’s been most exciting is like on social media, I get sent a lot of pictures of young girls in the Captain Marvel costume. I’m excited to see more of that,” she explained.
While parts of Captain Marvel’s origins will be altered for her theatrical standalone, the character gained her gifts thanks to the Kree aliens. In the comics, Carol Danvers was once a US Air Force officer whose life was changed after an undercover Kree agent critically wounded her. She is saved with alien tech, but the treatment had a rather strange side-effect. The intervention left Davers with unexplainable powers as she was suddenly able to tap into the universe’s cosmic energies. As time passed, Danvers eventually took on the title of Captain Marvel and helped teams like the Avengers defend Earth from intergalactic threats.
