William Castle's 1959 film House on Haunted Hill starring Vincent Price as a wealthy eccentric offering contestants money to spend the night in his spooky mansion has been reinterpreted and imitated in countless movies, TV shows, and books, proving the power of its concept. If films featuring a familiar concept wasn't enough, the story got a direct remake in 1999 with Geoffrey Rush taking over the role of Vincent Price and with the reward being upped from $10,000 to $1 million. In a press briefing, it was announced that Warner Bros. is taking another crack at updating the horror classic.

Writers Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman will soon be tackling the film Unexplained Phenomenon for Amblin, but in addition to that project, the writers were named as also tackling the remake of the horror classic.

The duo previously wrote Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension, which is more known for the found footage style of filmmaking more than its dialogue, so it's tough to say how the team will tackle the classic material.

The original House on Haunted Hill is more campy than scary, but the 1999 remake relied much more on blood and guts to update the tale for modern audiences.

Will this new attempt be gory, campy, or something else entirely? We can only cross our fingers that someone like Jeff Goldblum takes over the reins as the Vincent Price character, as he's delightfully campy and highly entertaining.
