An awesome new comic book-inspired film just got one step closer to hitting the big screen.

Hollywood Reporter announced yesterday that The Kitchen has officially found a director in established Hollywood scribe Andrea Berloff.

The Kitchen tells the story of a group of women in 1970s Hell's Kitchen who take over and drastically change the local Irish mob after their mobster husbands are arrested.

The eight issue Vertigo Comics series was released between 2014 and 2015, and was created by Ollie Masters (Snow Blind) and Ming Doyle (Constantine: The Hellblazer).

Berloff was already penning the script for New Line, who plans to distribute the drama. While this is Berloff's first time behind the director's chair, she has made a name for herself writing scripts such as Straight Outta Compton (for which she earned an Oscar nomination) and the upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger-led The Legend of Conan.

With the upcoming release of female-led crime films such as Ocean's Eight, The Kitchen is sure to make a splash with audiences. And having a female director at the helm only helps increase the diversity amongst Hollywood, an issue the industry has faced in recent years.

While no casting or additional information has been released yet, The Kitchen is definitely one to keep an eye on.
