Logan has finally released worldwide, giving X-fans one last ride alongside Hugh Jackman as the reluctant Wolverine. It’s a violent and visceral story of a man unable to live in peace, but eventually finds it in a family he never asked for.

And in between all of that, he stabs a bunch of people in the brains. It’s pretty awesome, as evidenced by our own readers giving it a 4.72/5 star rating, making it ComicBook.com’s #1 film as voted by fans.
The huge tonal shift in the latest Jackman X-film comes from the same creative team who made 2013’s The Wolverine. But while director James Mangold and writer Scott Frank made a decidedly CG-infused. by-the-numbers superhero film the first go around, Logan is anything but.
Frank spoke about the freedom of making this film, referring to restrictions of connecting it to the larger X-Men movie universe.
“Or as [Mangold] keeps saying, ‘We didn’t have to sell Happy Meals.’ And so that was great,” Frank joked.

Frank said his favorite part about the Wolverine was a quiet moment in the Japanese countryside, “with this woman and being a human being and feeling what it’s like to be a human being.”
“But we’re not there very long before we’re back to giant robots and stuff,” Frank said. “And then it becomes just another superhero movie with a lot of CG stuff.”
He added that changes in 20th Century Fox’s executive structure brought in visions that embraced the idea of doing something new, making Logan more viable to create in a landscape dominated with cape films.
“The only way these movies have value is if they become about something else. They can’t all about saving the world,” Frank said.
Logan is definitely more about saving yourself than it is saving the world, but there’s still a little altruism along the way. It’s in theaters now.
