Classic Doctor Who Villain Returning For Season 10 Finale

The BBC just revealed something special for the season finale of Doctor Who Season 10. The two-part story will see the return of classic Doctor Who villains the Cybermen. These aren’t just any Cybermen, though. These are Mondasian Cybermen, the original Cybermen who debuted in the very first series of Doctor Who and haven’t been seen in more than 50 years but can be seen in the photo from below.

According to Doctor Who lore, the Mondasian Cybermen come from the planet Mondas, which was the tenth planet in Earth’s solar system (Pluto hadn’t been demoted at the time). Mondas was Earth’s twin planet but was knocked out of orbit by the formation of the moon. As Mondas drifted further and further away from the sun its atmosphere became increasingly cold, which is what prompted the Mondasians to transform themselves into Cybermen. The Cybermen’s original goal was to destroy Earth and move Mondas into Earth’s orbit. When the Cybermen’s plans were foiled by the Doctor multiple times, they decided it would be easier to just take over the rest of the universe instead. The resulting conquest was known as the Cyber Wars and forced many difference alien races to join forces against the Cybermen.

The Cybermen that have been featured in the new series of Doctor Who were created by the Cybus Industries, a company that existed on the Earth of an alternate universe.

Doctor Who Season 10 will be Capaldi’s final season as the Doctor. The time of the Twelfth Doctor will come to an end with the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Doctor Who Season 10 will also be the final season for showrunner Steven Moffat, who has steered the series since Season 5. He’ll be handing the reins over to Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall for Doctor Who Season 11.

Mackie is making her debut as Bill in Doctor Who Season 10. Whether she will join the new Doctor and the new showrunner in Doctor Who Season 11 remains unknown.
