Internet Reacts To Venom Movie Announcement

Yesterday, the Marvel movie nobody thought would happen got a release date. Get ready fanboys because Sony is bringing you a Venom movie!

The Venom spinoff will be written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner who between the two of them, have fantastic film credits. They are both attached to the recent remake of Jumanji starring Dwayne Johnson and Karen Gillan. In the past, Rosenberg has worked on projects like Con Air, Gone In Sixty Seconds, and Salamander. As for Pinkner, the writer has provided work for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Alias, The Dark Tower, and more.

As of right now, Venom is a true stand alone film and does not tie into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe like Spider-Man: Homecoming does. That doesn’t mean that over the process of bringing this movie to life it might change. This also gives Sony the chance to dip their toes into the R-Rated superhero movie waters since the character lends itself to that.

So naturally with an announcement of this magnitude, the Internet did what it does best – it reacted. Surprising maybe only 4 or 5 people, the general consensus is that the idea is a crazy one. Venom without Spider-Man?

We’re with you, Damone. Venom is arguably Spider-Man’s most recognizable bad guy and to have a movie where the ol’ Webhead isn’t around, doesn’t make much sense. Now there is a good chance that they might go the “Lethal Protector” route and make him an anti-hero. This is a play that could work in their favor and set up an entirely new franchise for the studio.

You get a Symbiote! You get a Symbiote! We all get Symbiotes!

Utter the phrase “Venom” and “Carnage,” “Toxin,” and the countless other symbiote mixes are not far behind. As one of the world’s biggest Carnage fans, I’d LOVE to see Cletus show up in a live-action role, but how about we let the Venom movie come out first before we introduce some of the other symbiote characters in the Spider-Man corner of the Marvel Universe. As for Aaron Paul, sold. Make it happen Sony!

It can’t be sunshine and rainbows all the time.

We understand Rafael, Sony’s track record when it comes to Spider-Man movies is pretty awful. So to believe they’ll actually pull out a win with Venom is hard to get behind. However, this is their BEST chance for Sony to break out of the standard superhero mold and try something that Fox has seen some massive success with. So really, how could they be idiots? Venom is just as popular, if not more popular than Deadpool so why are you mad about that?

We expected this…

This is to be expected. Not everyone is going to be excited for this movie. A lot of this probably comes from the fact that Sony has been dangling this carrot in front of fans since Spider-Man 3 and broke everyone’s heart. Here’s to hoping Sony can make some great casting moves and win you back, Peter!
