Did You Catch The Major MCU Connection In The Cloak & Dagger Trailer?

Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has been taking over Hollywood, but the company is starting to make a serious dent in the television industry as well. However, when you have an expanded universe so vast, there’s no reason to keep the two from intertwining.

Shows like Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, and Iron Fist have all had big ties to the Marvel films, and it looks like that reach is extending to the new shows Marvel is debuting on Freeform.

The first trailer for Cloak & Dagger – the first Marvel series set to air on Freeform – was just released online. People are loving the edgy vibe of the teenage drama series, but die-hard Marvel fans are noticing one major connection to the rest of the franchise.

At the trailer’s end, as Cloak is seen walking along a rooftop, a neon sign glows bright beside him. The sign highlights a brand that many Marvel fans are familiar with; Roxxon Corp.

The oil company has been featured in many of Marvel’s properties, and represents a conglomerate with some less-than-desirable business practices. Roxxon has popped up in all of the Iron Man films, The Avengers, Agent Carter, Agents Of SHIELD, and Daredevil.

Even though Cloak & Dagger will debut on a different network, it’s still just as connected to the rest of the Marvel universe.

Cloak & Dagger is a coming-of-age series based on the beloved Marvel characters. Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul.

Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.

Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes forever.

The cast also includes Andrea Roth (Blue Bloods) as Melissa Bowen, Tandy’s mom; Gloria Reuben (ER) as Tyrone’s mother, Adina Johnson; Miles Mussenden (Bloodline) as Tyrone’s father, Michael Johnson; Carl Lundstedt (Grey’s Anatomy) as Liam, Tandy’s partner in crime; James Saito (Life of Pi) as Dr. Bernard Sanjo, and J.D. Evermore (The Walking Dead) as Detective Connors.

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger is scheduled to hit Freeform sometime in winter of 2018.
