If you’ve seen Wonder Woman already, you know that the movie really captures the essence of a solo film. Yes, it’s part of the larger DCEU, but it barely ties into the other movies, causing a unique standalone experience.

Well, if you were paying very close attention to the film’s first act, you may have noticed a potential connection to one of the other major Justice League members. It seems like Wonder Woman may have given everyone the first glimpse at Aquaman‘s origin.
Warning: There are SPOILERS AHEAD!
At the beginning of the movie, while Diana was still a child, Hippolyta was telling her the story of the Amazons, and of how they ended up on Themyscira. Ares, the God of War, killed all of the other gods, and they were put on Themyscira by Zeus to keep Ares from ever wreaking havoc again.
During this tale, a storybook of sorts unfolds, showing the audience what was happening throughout. This visual showed Mount Olympus, with all of the gods standing on top, just before Ares struck them down. Among them was Poseidon, the God of the Sea.
He was never mentioned by name specifically, but the guy holding the trident is easy to pick out as the ruler of the oceans. The strange thing was, his trident bore a strong resemblence to the one Aquaman will wield in the Justice League film.
Aquaman’s trident is currently considered a Relic of Atlantis, but it’s had multiple histories throughout the comics. Many tales involve the trident belonging to the God of the Sea. Sometimes this was Poseiden, often times it was Neptune.
With Wonder Woman setting up the existence of Greek mythology, it seems like Poseiden will be the one who held the trident long ago, not Neptune. And when the gods were killed by Ares, that trident went toppling down the mountain into the land of men.
Could this be the origin of Aquaman’s trident in the DCEU? Arthur Curry and Diana Prince getting a chance to talk in Justice League, there’s a good chance the mythical history of the heroes could be discussed.
