Part of playing Spider-Man means having a sense of humor and Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland can quip with the best of them, but there was one time when Marvel Studios took one of his jokes a little too seriously.

As a British actor, Holland isn’t familiar with the American schools, which could be a problem for someone playing a teenager attending on of those schools. Holland pointed this out and that’s where the mischief began.
“So, as a joke, I suggested to Marvel that I should go to a high school undercover and it was completely a joke and Marvel took it completely seriously,” Holland recount on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“I guess they didn’t get my British sarcasm. The next thing I know I was like, I had a backpack with a pencil case on my way to Bronx School of Science.”
The Bronx School of Science is exactly the kind of school that Peter Parker would attend, but Tom Holland was a bit out of place.
“I went to school with a fake name and a fake accent. And Bronx School of Science is a school for genius kids and I am no genius,” Holland says. “Even the teachers didn’t know that I was not a real student, so they’d bring me up to the front of the class and be like, ‘What do you think, new kid?’ I’m like, ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about.’ It was very embarrassing.”
However, in a bit of true Spider-Man drama, Holland did at one point reveal his secret identity.
“I had one funny experience. I was sat in the back of a classroom next ot quite a pretty girl and eventually she was like, ‘So, dude, what’s your deal, man?’ I was like, ‘Well, do you want to know my secret?’”
Holland continues to say that he told the girl that he was Spider-Man, or at least the actor playing Spider-Man. Funnily enough, the girl believe him.
